No. 12 Badgers triumph in border battle against Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 12 Wisconsin women’s tennis team (10-2) came out on top against Minnesota (5-6) in its first Big Ten game of the season. The team swept the Gophers 4-0 in yet another strong performance. With the win the Badgers extend their win streak once again, having won the past seven straight matches.

Heading into the doubles matches, Minnesota was already at a disadvantage, as it had only four players available to play. As a result, the team had to forfeit one of its doubles matches and two of its singles matches.

After automatically winning one of the doubles matches, Charmaine Seah and Taylor Catadli sealed the first point for Wisconsin after beating Anet Koskel and Aiva Schmitz. Heading into singles, the Badgers only needed one singles win to give them the victory. Ava Markham struck first, beating Anet Koskel 6-2, 6-2, and gave the Badgers their first Big Ten win of the season.

On Saturday, the Badgers play their second Big Ten game of the season in Minneapolis against No. 64 Iowa. First serve is set for 11 a.m. (CT).
