Tennis Falls to Illinois in Big Ten Tournament Second Round


ANN ARBOR, Mich.  — The No. 12-seeded Rutgers women’s tennis team (12-12, 2-9 B1G) fell to No. 5 Illinois (17-8, 9-3 B1G), 4-1, in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. Yana Gurevich recorded a singles victory for the Scarlet Knights in the loss.
 
Doubles
 
The Illini recorded wins on the first and third courts to clinch the doubles point.
 
Tara Chilton and Minchae Kim were locked with their opponent at four games apiece at the conclusion of the round.
 
Singles
 
Illinois earned two-straight wins to open the singles round, putting itself on the brink of clinching the dual.
 
Yana Gurevich earned her fourth-straight B1G victory, downing Megan Heuser in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, to put the Scarlet Knights on the board.
 

 
The Illini then clinched the dual with a win at the second court to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinal round.
 
After dropping the first sets of their respective matches, Jackeline Lopez and Amira Badawi had both equalized their competitions at one set apiece when play concluded.
