Women's Tennis Hosts ECU and Campbell


The UNC Women’s Tennis team hosts East Carolina 1 p.m. and Campbell 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16th at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The Tar Heels are coming off of a 2-0 weekend, defeating Elon 5-2 on Friday night, and Appalachian State 6-1 Saturday afternoon.

Over the weekend, the Tar Heels had strong starts in both contest from the doubles – using 5 line-up combinations to win the point in both matches.

No. 58 Elizabeth Scotty had a strong showing winning at No. 4 Singles over Elon, 6-0, 6-0 and No. 2 singles over Appalachian State 6-1, 6-1.

No. 5 Abbey Forbes began her UNC career with a 6-3, 6-1 in the Elon match and 6-1, 6-4 battle over over App State.

The matches against the Pirates and Camels are the 4rd and 4th matched in a 5 match stretch over 6 days to open the 2022 dual match season.

The win over App State was the 499th for head coach Brian Kalbas in Chapel Hill. Kalbas is 499-101 (.832) in his 20 seasons at the helm of the program.

ECU is led by second-year head coach Kirstin Burgess. The Pirates finished the 2022 dual season campaign 4-15 record in its first season back from a one-year hiatus.

Campbell is under the direction of Mike Stevens, in the 4th season in Bouies Creak, N.C. The Camels finished the 2022 dual match season 14-7 before while being crowned regular-season

runners-up of the Big South.

Following the Monday matches, the Tar Heels will host NC Central Wednesday, Jan. 18th at 5 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
