SAN DIEGO – The Wildcats found success in the Hagedorn Hidden Dual where they competed against Arizona State, Michigan, San Diego State and University of San Diego. The Cats went perfect in doubles and won seven of eight singles matches on day one against ASU/SDSU.
Arizona bested three out of four doubles matches on day two against tournament host USD and stumbled in singles taking only three of nine matches. The Cats closed out day three with two doubles and six singles wins against Michigan.
The tournament is named after Tom Hagedorn, former Arizona Tennis player (1984-87) and assistant coach (1988-96) under Bill Wright, who passed away in 2009 after a battle with leukemia. Their team appeared at the NCAA tournament twice in ’95 and ’96 with the latter team finishing at No. 23 in ITA ranks. Hagedorn was ranked in the top-10 Southwest players two years in a row during his collegiate career at Arizona. He began his successful coaching reign at USD in 1996 and led the Toreros to four straight NCAA appearances (2003-2006).
Next up for the Cats is another road trip to Southern California for the ITA Regionals in Malibu, Calif. from Oct. 20-24.
