LOS ANGELES – USC men’s tennis (6-15, 1-5 Pac-12) dropped its first leg of the final week of the regular season, as it lost to UCLA (12-6, 4-2 Pac-12) 4-2 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Trojans got off to a strong start, as they utilized a new doubles lineup against the Bruins. Senior Lodewijk Weststrate and freshman Volodymyr Iakubenko dominated to start as the duo quickly won the first match of the day 6-2. However, USC could not muster enough in the end as both court No. 1 and court No. 3 fell in a tiebreak.
On the singles side it was a game of back-and-forth as junior Karl Lee struck first winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. UCLA would follow and then USC struck again for the final time with Iakubenko continuing his successful outing with a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Trojans finish out the regular season on the road against Utah at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 21.
