No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis Secures Spot in NCAA Sweet 16 With 4-0 Victory Over No. 23 San Diego

LOS ANGELES – No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis downed No. 23 San Diego 4-0 during the second round of the NCAA Team Tournament on Saturday, May. 4 at Marks Stadium. The victory sends the Women of Troy through to the NCAA Super Regional this upcoming Friday, May 10 as the Trojans travel just a short trip up Pacific Coast Highway to face No. 6 seed Malibu for a 1 p.m. PST match in Malibu. 
 
With the win, USC improves to 20-8 to mark the Trojans third 20-win season under head coach Alison Swain. The victory also sends the Trojans to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time since 2021 and the third time with Swain at the Helm. 
 
USC was dominant from start to finish, claiming the doubles point and following it up with three straight set singles wins. In doubles, USC’s Lily Fairclough and Eryn Cayetano swiftly powered past USD’s No. 50 ranked duo of Abigail Desiatnikov and Elizabeth Goldsmith 6-1. The Trojan duo of Snow Han and Emma Charney claimed the doubles point as they downed San Diego’s Filippa Bruu-Syversen and Jordan McBride 6-1 on court three. 
 
Moving into singles play with a one-point advantage, the Trojans would claim first sets on five out of six courts. Freshman Immi Haddad extended USC’s lead as she beat Torero Bruu-Syversen 6-4, 6-1 on court five. Playing in her final match at Marks Stadium, Trojan No. 97 ranked Eryn Cayetano beat San Diego Desiatnikov 6-3, 6-4 to put USC one point away from a win. 
 

The match was won on center court as No. 99 ranked Snow Han defeated Torero Elizabeth Goldsmith 6-2, 6-3. Goldsmith double faulted with Han up 40-0 to send the Trojans through to the next round of NCAA play.
