Cats Conclude Season in NCAA Championships First Round


COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Arizona Women’s Tennis concluded its 2023-24 season on Saturday, falling to No. 18 Oklahoma, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Championships at the College Station regional site.

The Wildcats kicked off the day with a quick doubles victory on court one. No. 38 Reece Carter and Brandelyn Fulgenzi defeated 26th-ranked Roisin Gilheany and Dana Guzman 6-1, but Oklahoma got a win of their own when Chloe Noel and Alina Shcherbinina defeated Martyna Ostrzygalo and Belen Nevenhoven 6-2.

The doubles point came down to court three where Oklahoma’s Ava Catanzarite and Florencia Urrutia led Teja Tirunelveli and Kayla Wilkins 5-3. Tirunelveli and Wilkins won the next game to bring it to 5-4, but ultimately Noel and Shcherbinina secured the 6-4 win.

The Sooners claimed the first win of singles when No. 37 Garcia Ruiz defeated No. 105 Carter 6-2, 6-2 on court one. Minutes later, Emma Staker put Oklahoma one away from clinching the win with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Fulgenzi.

No. 121 Shcherbinina clinched it for Oklahoma, defeating Ostrzygalo 6-4, 6-1 on court three.

Arizona completes its 2024 dual match season with a 17-13 overall record.
