Jannik Sinner’s right hip injury will keep him out of next week’s Masters event in Rome.
The Italian, who last week withdrew before playing in the Madrid quarterfinals due to the ongoing injury, announced the news on Saturday, saying on X in his native Italian: “It is not easy to write this message but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome.
“Obviously I’m very sad that I didn’t recover, it being one of my favorite tournaments ever. I couldn’t wait to come back and play at home in front of the Italian crowd.”

Sinner has had a banner year on tour, winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, and compiling a 28-2 record with three titles overall. The 22-year-old became the first Italian man to win a major title since 1976, and is the highest-ranked Italian man in history at No.2 in the world.
He is joined by his rival Carlos Alcaraz on the sidelines at Rome. The Spaniard pulled out with a forearm injury on Friday, leaving the world’s No.2 and No.3-ranked players as a big question mark as the second major of the year approaches.
Roland-Garros main draw play begins on May 26.
