Sun Devils Faceoff Against Two Big 12 Opponents


Norman, Okla. – Arizona State men’s tennis hits the road this weekend to match up against No. 38 Oklahoma on Friday, March 3 at 5 p.m. MST and No. 32 Baylor on Sunday, March 5 at 12 p.m. MST.

Previewing the Sun Devils

No. 36 ASU men’s tennis is 8-2 on the season and a perfect 7-0 at home. The Sun Devils are riding a six match win streak with the hopes of extending it to eight following this weekend. The team is 1-2 on the road this season with their last loss coming against San Diego at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. 

In their most recent match, ASU won 4-0 against Loyola Marymount at Kiwanis Tennis Center in Tempe. Both Sun Devil doubles pairs beat their opponents 6-3 and No. 87 Murphy Cassone swept in singles, 6-1, 6-3, to finish the first singles match. Cassone was closely followed by Max Mckennon and Nicola Cigna who also dominated in their matches.

The Sooners

No. 38 Oklahoma Sooners have a 7-5 record this season and are currently on a two match losing streak. The Sooners have victories against No. 47 UTSA, No. 61 Drake, No, 58 Alabama and a close 3-4 loss against No. 13 Tennessee.

The Bears

No. 32 Baylor is 7-8 on the year and currently on a two match win streak. The Bears faced the Sun Devils earlier this season during the ITA Kickoff Weekend where ASU took the loss, 2-4. The Bears have the No. 46 ranked singles player, Jake Finn Bass. Baylor also has two highly ranked doubles teams, No. 10 Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz, and No. 15 Jake Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi.
