Huskies On Short End In Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. – Singles wins from Dzianis Zharyn and Nedim Suko weren’t enough today for the Dawgs who fought hard on the road but lost a 2-4 decision to 64th-ranked Oregon at UO’s Student Tennis Center.

Next week Washington (8-12, 2-4 Pac-12) will conclude the regular season at home against Arizona and Arizona State on Apr. 19-20.

After dropping the doubles point, the Huskies got four first set wins in the six singles matches, staking out a path to a comeback, but the Ducks were able to turn around and win on court three, which ultimately clinched the match as Vlad Breazu beat Han-Chih Lin, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Oregon also held a 4-1 third set lead on the top court when the match was suspended.

Zharyn earned the first UW point with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court two over David Cierny. Zharyn has now won seven of his last eight singles matches and is 9-5 in dual play.

It was 3-1 in favor of Oregon when Suko completed a three-set win at No. 4 singles, getting past Matthew Burton, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 for his ninth win of the season.

Doubles was tight but the Ducks got 6-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, while UW was leading 5-4 at No. 2 doubles when the point was clinched.
