Dores Face In-State Foe at NCAA Regionals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 31 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to compete against East Tennessee State University in the opening round of the NCAA Regional on Friday.

The Commodores are coming off of a short break after a strong showing at the SEC tournament. In the most recent ITA rankings, Vanderbilt has two ranked singles players: Celia-Belle Mohr at No. 30 and Bridget Stammel at No. 99. Mohr and partner Marcella Cruz also locked in a doubles ranking of No. 41. Vanderbilt may see familiar foes at the Ohio State Regional, as last season the Dores won against Xavier and Ohio State to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals.

The Buccaneers are 19-7 overall and also are coming off of a brief break. ETSU took home the Southern Conference Tournament crown after beating three opponents 4-0. Their doubles pairing of Laylo Bakhodirova and Mariya Shumeika defeated Furman’s No. 67 duo to clinch the doubles point and give the Bucs an advantage in singles in the championship match.

The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT. Live stats and livestream links are on the Vanderbilt women’s tennis schedule page.
