Noel Reenters ITA Top Five – University of Miami Athletics

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Alexa Noel of the University of Miami women’s tennis team is back in the top five of the ITA singles rankings, as announced Thursday morning.

A redshirt sophomore from Summit, N.J., Noel ascended two spots to come in at fifth in the nation, matching her best mark of the season. The spot also matches her seed for the NCAA Singles Championship.

This is the fifth straight top-eight ranking for Noel, who owns a 32-7 record in her first campaign as a Hurricane.  She has been in the top 14 for the entire spring.

There are, once again, two Hurricanes joining Noel in the ITA singles rankings. Junior Isabella Pfennig checks in at No. 88 overall, while fifth-year senior Daevenia Achong places No. 105.

Miami also has a trio of ranked doubles pairs for the fifth straight week. Noel comes in at No. 28 alongside Achong and at No. 32 with Pfennig. Achong also holds the No. 51 position with fourth-year junior Maya Tahan.

As a team, the Hurricanes hold the No. 15 spot nationally. It is the 12th time in 16 spring releases Miami is in the top 15, including the eighth in a row.

Miami is again one of 13 ACC schools in the ITA rankings, nine of which are top-30 and in the NCAA Team Championship, while two others were the first ones out of the field. Six ACC teams are in the top 20, with five in the top 15.

The Hurricanes are joined on the list by top-ranked North Carolina, fourth-ranked NC State, seventh-ranked Duke, No. 11 Virginia, No. 19 Georgia Tech, No. 26 Florida State, No. 27 Notre Dame, No. 30 Wake Forest, No. 43 Clemson, No. 44 Syracuse, No. 51 Boston College and No. 68 Louisville.

No. 14-seed Miami begins NCAA Team Championship play Friday at 1 p.m. against Boston University in a Round of 64 matchup at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
