#23 Women's Tennis to Travel to #30 Baylor


TEMPE, Ariz.- After a little over a week off, No. 23 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis (7-3) will take a brief road trip to No. 30 Baylor (8-5) on Tuesday, March 5 at 11 a.m. AZT at the Hurd Tennis Center before the start of conference play.

Sun Devil Notables (7-3)

  • The Sun Devils are coming off an impressive win on February 25 as they upset then-No. 7 Ohio State for the first victory over the Buckeyes since 1990. The duos of Giulia Morlet/Sara Svetac and Marianna Argyrokastriti/Emilija Tverijonaite picked up the doubles wins and Tverijonaite, Argyrokastriti and Rachel Hanford each won singles matches to win the dual match for ASU.
  • Arizona State has been ranked in each of the ITA team rankings this season, most recently checking in at No. 23.
  • The Sun Devils also have individual singles rankings with Giulia Morlet ranked No. 75 and Tverijonaite ranked No. 104.
  • Morlet and Argyrokastriti each lead the Sun Devils in singles with six this season. The duo of Patricija Spaka/Chelsea Fontenel lead the team in doubles wins with five.
  • Chasing 600: Head coach Sheila McInerney currently sits at 581 career wins in her 40th season with the Sun Devils. 

 
Previewing No. 30 Baylor (6-5)

  • The Bears are ranked No. 30 in the latest team ITA rankings.
  • Baylor is coming off a pair of wins over conference opponents Cincinnati and West Virginia.
  • The Bears are winless against top-25 opponents, with losses coming against No. 10 Texas, No. 21 Washington and No. 19 Texas A&M.
  • Baylor was a tournament team last season, advancing to the second round.
