Hokies drop a heartbreaker to Georgia Tech


Atlanta, GA – The Hokies drop a heartbreaker to no. 31 Georgia Tech, falling 4-3 in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Tech continued their strong form in doubles as Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng clinched the doubles point for the Hokies with a 7-5 win in the tiebreak. Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu picked up the other win for the Hokies as they won 6-1. Katie Andreini and Dariya Radulova had a tough going, dropping 6-0 to the 18th-ranked doubles pair in the nation in Georgia Tech’s Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura. 
 
Aksu picks up her third straight singles win with a three-set win over Mahak Jain. She fell 7-5 in the first set but returned to drop only four games in the second and third sets to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Radulova battled back from a first-set loss to win her match in three sets. She took the match with a final score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 over Scarlett Nicholson.  
 
Tamara Barad Itzhaki played a strong match but fell short in three sets. She was able to come back after going down 6-2 in the first set to win 7-3 in the second-set tiebreak, but ultimately fell short as she was topped 6-2 in the final set by Alejandra Cruz.

The Hokies return home to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center to take on Virginia for the Commonwealth Clash on Thursday, March 14 at 3 p.m.
