Women's Tennis To Battle No. 72 Ole Miss On Friday


STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women’s tennis team is set to square off against in-state rival Ole Miss on Friday at 4 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt and all fans will have chance to enter a raffle for a $50 visa gift card. In case of inclement weather, matches will be moved indoors to the Rula Tennis Pavilion.

In singles, Emmanouela Antonaki leads the team with a 12-6 mark during dual match play and sits at 17-11 overall.

Antonaki claimed her third ranked win of the season against Florida’s 42nd-ranked Sara Dahlstorm last Friday. Antonaki took down Dahlstorm in straight sets. The win moved her to 27 career ranked singles victories.

Freshman Dharani Niroshan grabbed her fourth SEC win against Florida. Niroshan defeated Rachel Gailis 6-4, 7-6(6), to move to 11-9 overall and 8-4 in dual match play.

Emily Surcey earned her first SEC victory in straight sets last Sunday, taking down South Carolina’s McKenna Schaefbauer 6-2, 6-1.

Daryl Greenan‘s Bulldogs enter Friday at 10-9 overall and still searching for their first conference win. No. 72 Ole Miss comes into the match 8-8 overall and 2-6 in SEC play.

In singles, MSU features No. 177 Maria Rizzolo, while the Rebels have 62nd-ranked Ludmila Kareisova.

The match will mark the 63rd matchup between the two teams.
