Women’s Tennis Tabbed No. 6 in Preseason Ranking

DURHAM – The Duke women’s tennis team will open the 2023 spring slate on January 13 as the No. 6 ranked team in the nation as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its preseason coaches’ poll on Wednesday, which is sponsored by Tennis-Point.

With the top-10 ranking, the Blue Devils have been listed in the top 10 in seven straight years under the direction of head coach Jamie Ashworth.  Entering his 27th season at the helm, Ashworth has guided Duke to a total of 20 top-10 preseason rankings since 2001.

Texas enters the season ranked No. 1, after receiving seven first-place votes.  North Carolina, NC State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Duke, Virginia, Georgia, Stanford and Pepperdine round out the top 10.  The ACC received six teams in the preseason listing – North Carolina (2), NC State (3), Duke (6), Virginia (7), Miami (11) and Georgia Tech (25).

Ashworth returns five letterwinners off his 2022 ACC Championship squad that also advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the 11th time under his direction.  A pair of All-Americans – Chloe Beck and Georgia Drummy – highlight the returns for the Blue Devils.  Duke added three highly-ranked transfers to the mix as Cameron Morra, Iuliia Bryzgalova and Brianna Shvets joined the squad in the fall along with freshman Katie Codd.
