Nittany Lions Fall 6-1 on the Road to Princeton


PRINCETON, N.J. – The Penn State women’s tennis team fell to Princeton on the road, 6-1. The Nittany Lions are now 1-2 on the season. 
 
DOUBLES
 
Princeton took the first point of the match by claiming doubles wins on courts one and three. 
 
Karly Friedland and Sofiya Chekhlystova defeated Princeton’s Maia Sung and Grace Joyce, 6-4, to give the Blue and White one singles win. 
 
Penn State’s Ioana Gheorghita and Olivia Dorner lost their match against Daria Frayman and Neha Velaga, 6-0. PSU’s Alina Lebedeva and Alexandra Nielsen fell to Zoe Howard and Leena Bennetto, 6-1. 
 
SIINGLES
 
Princeton carried its momentum into singles play and secured its victory with wins on courts one, two, three, four and five. 
 
Alina Lebedeva gave Penn State its lone point of the day by defeating Eva Elbaz, 6-7, 6-4, 6-0. 

At No. 2, Yvonne Zuffova took the first set, 6-2, against Neha Velaga but dropped a tight second set, 7-6. In the deciding set, Zuffova fell 6-0.

 

UP NEXT

 

The Nittany Lions are set to travel to Baton Rouge, La. to face off against Harvard on Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. E.T. and LSU on Jan. 29 at 11 a.m.
