On the Court: No. 4 Wisconsin dances into B1G Semifinal


MADISON, Wis. – The No. 4 Wisconsin women’s tennis team will compete in the semifinal round of the Big Ten Tournament against No. 1 Michigan on Saturday, April 27, at 11:00 a.m. (CT). The match will be played on the campus of the University of Michigan.

1. SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES: The Michigan Wolverines went 11-0 in Big Ten play, claiming the title of 2024 Big Ten Regular Season Champions.

Michigan sits at No. 2 in the ITA rankings and has its entire singles lineup in the rankings. Michigan senior Kari Miller was the unanimous selection for the Big Ten Player of the Year award, joined by Wolverines’ head coach Ronni Bernstein who was named Coach of the Year.

The Badgers and Wolverines went head-to-head earlier this month in Madison. Michigan swept the match, 4-0, although some Badgers fought to three sets.

2. BADGERS IN THE B1G TOURNEY: Wisconsin defeated No. 5 seeded Illinois on Friday, April 26, posting a 4-1 score. UW won the doubles point along with the singles points at No. 1, 2, and 3.

Last season, in the semifinal round, Michigan defeated Wisconsin 4-0. 

The first and only time Wisconsin has claimed a Big Ten Tournament title was in the 1996 season, when they also claimed the regular season title.

3. B1G HONORS: The Big Ten All-Conference women’s tennis team and individual honors were announced by the league on Wednesday. 

Sophomore Maria Sholokhova was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten Team, while freshman Ellison Reynoldson was named a Sportsmanship Award honoree.
