Nine ACC Men's Tennis Teams Earn NCAA Championship Bids


GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Nine Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis teams earned bids to the 2022 NCAA Championships, the third time in the last four NCAA Championships the ACC has placed at least nine teams in the event. The nine teams are the second most of any conference.
 
ACC Champion and No. 7 seed Virginia, No. 9 Wake Forest, No. 15 North Carolina, Duke, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, NC State and Notre Dame all earned selections as announced by the NCAA Monday evening.
 
Virginia (22-5), making its 18th consecutive NCAA appearance and 23rd overall, will host Fairleigh Dickinson (10-11) in the first round. Wake Forest (31-6), which earned its 21st tournament bid, will take on Radford (14-7) in Winston-Salem. Norh Carolina (16-8) earned its 30th overall NCAA tournament selection and will host Navy (31-10) in Chapel Hill.
 
In other NCAA first-round matchups, Duke (16-8) earned its 29th NCAA bid and will play Memphis (16-7) in Knoxville, Tennessee. Louisville (19-8), which earned its 13th NCAA bid and first since 2017, is matched up with Oklahoma (14-10) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Florida State (16-10) will face Georgia State (17-7) in Athens, Georgia. Miami (16-9) will face South Florida (14-10) in Gainesville, Florida, as the Hurricanes earned their 30th NCAA bid. NC State (18-9), playing in its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament and 11th overall, will host Liberty (13-9) in Raleigh, North Carolina. Notre Dame (16-12) is making its 29th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and will play Columbia (14-8) in Columbus, Ohio.
  
First- and second-round competition takes place May 6-7 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 13 or 14. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 19-22. The event will be hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
