Eight ACC Women's Tennis Teams Heading to the NCAA Championship


GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Eight Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis teams were selected to the 2022 NCAA Championships, including five national seeds. The ACC’s five top-16 seeds are the most of any league, and all five will host first- and second-round matches. The eight overall teams are the second most of any conference.
 
Top-seeded North Carolina, No. 3 Duke, No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 NC State, No. 9 Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest all received bids, which were announced Monday evening by the NCAA.
 

North Carolina (24-2) is making its 23rd straight NCAA appearance and will host South Carolina State (9-9) in Chapel Hill. Quinnipiac (13-8) will head to Durham to face Duke (19-3) after the Blue Devils earned their 32nd consecutive bid. Virginia (20-5) will host Youngstown State (13-9) in the Cavaliers’ 21st overall NCAA Championship. NC State (23-5) earned its 12th NCAA tournament bid and will host William & Mary (13-8). Miami (17-5) will host Stetson (19-2) in Coral Gables.

In other first-round matchups, Florida State (14-10) earned its 23rd trip to the NCAA Championship and will face FIU (17-4) in Gainesville (Fla.). Georgia Tech (14-10) will play Memphis (20-6) in Auburn (Ala.). It is the Yellow Jackets’ 22nd straight NCAA appearance. Wake Forest (16-10), making its 22nd NCAA appearance, will play Northwestern (14-9) in Athens (Ga.).

  

First- and second-round competition takes place May 6-7 or 7-8 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 13 or 14. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 20-22. The event will be hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
