Men’s Tennis Travels to UNC for NCAA Tournament


TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Men’s Tennis will travel to the University of North Carolina this week for round one of the NCAA tournament. Coming off the heels of their first regular-season Pac-12 championship in program history, the Wildcats (20-6) will faceoff against Princeton (18-8) on Friday, May 6 at 11 a.m. (MST) for round one of the tournament. The Cats are currently ranked No. 17 in the ITA polls and the Tigers at No. 41. 

The men’s tennis program has reached the NCAA Tournament 11 times since it joined the then Pac-10 conference in the late 1970s. Since joining the conference, Arizona makes the tournament for the third year in a row, under the leadership of head coach Clancy Shields

No. 15 seeded UNC (16-8) will take on Navy (31-10) for their first round of the tournament. The winners of the first two matches at UNC will play each other on Saturday, May 7 at 1 p.m. (MST). The ultimate winner of this site will advance to the super-regionals on May 13 or 14. 

Arizona has had their best season yet, taking down more ranked teams than they ever have before, including Texas and Oklahoma, claimed their first ever Pac-12 regular season crown and were the No. 1 seed in the Pac-12 Championship tournament. 

The Wildcats will continue to rewrite history in NCAA Tournament play. 

Individual singles and doubles selections will take place tomorrow afternoon on Tuesday, May 2.
