CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois men’s tennis team fell to No. 1 Ohio State on the first day of the ITA National Indoor Tournament.
Mathis Debru and Oliver Okonkwo first lost, 6-2, to Andrew Lutschaunig and James Trotter then the Buckeyes clinched the doubles point when Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy beat Kenta Miyoshi and Gabrielius Guzauskas, 6-2.
Guzauskas went on to lose to No. 9 Tracy, 6-3, 6-1 before Nic Meister lost to Robert Cash, 6-1, 7-5. Ohio State clinched the match when Okonkwo lost 6-2, 7-6 (3) to Trotter.
Even with the loss, the Illini are guaranteed two more matches. The first match will be Saturday against Wake Forest at 6:30 p.m. at XS Tennis Center in Chicago, Ill.
