Gators Ranked 18th in Preseason ITA Rankings

The Gators are one of six ranked Southeastern Conference squads.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women’s tennis will enter the spring 2023 campaign ranked No. 20 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Division I Preseason Poll, the ITA announced Wednesday afternoon.

The ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the ITA National Ranking Committee. The National Ranking Committee is made up of the 12 ITA Region Chairs, with each chair casting an individual, secret ballot.

In addition to the Gators, five other SEC squads find themselves in the Top 25, including Texas A&M (5), Georgia (T-8), Auburn (15), Vanderbilt (T-20) and Tennessee (24). The Gators will matchup with each conference opponent, while also meeting nationally-ranked Pepperdine (10) and Michigan (T-20) during the spring, in addition to Baylor who is receiving votes.

This fall, the Gators captured 34 singles victories, led by a 9-1 effort from Emily De Oliveira and a 6-1 mark from Alicia Dudeney. Carly Briggs and Dudeney were the top doubles tandem, earning a 3-1 record during the fall campaign.

During the 2022 season the Gators recorded their best year since 2017, collecting 21 wins and earning a spot in the Super Regional, marking their deepest run in the NCAA Tournament since winning the national championship in 2017.

The spring season will begin on Jan. 12 when a contingent of Gators will head to Las Vegas for the Freeman Memorial, hosted on the campus of UNLV.
