Duke Claims 4-2 Win at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND – No. 22 Duke men’s tennis improved to 3-0 in ACC play after defeating No. 40 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon, 4-2, at Elko Tennis Pavilion.

The Blue Devils shift to 10-4 overall and have now won four consecutive, while the Fighting Irish dip to 8-6 overall and 0-2 in ACC action.

 

Junior Andrew Dale clinched the win for Duke on court five, marking his second in as many matches.

How It Happened

  • The sophomore-freshman duo of Connor Krug and Teddy Truwit kicked off doubles action with a 6-2 victory over Evan Lee and Yu Zhang on court three.
  • No. 47 Sebastian Dominko and Connor Fu then defeated No. 51 Andrew Zhang and Michael Heller, 6-4, on the top court to tie the doubles matches up at one all.
  • Garrett Johns and Pedro Rodenas clinched the doubles point on court two after they bested Matthew Che and Jean-Marc Malkowski, 6-4.
  • The home side quickly knotted the overall match up at 1-1 following No. 38 Dominko’s 6-2, 6-3 victory over No. 5 Johns on court one.
  • Rodneas and Andrew Zhang were the next to finish, claiming wins to put the Blue Devils back in front at 3-1. Rodenas earned 6-4, 6-4 wins over Malkowski on court three before Andrew Zhang tallied 6-2, 6-3 victories on court two over Che.
  • Yu Zhang cut into Duke’s lead when he beat Faris Khan 6-4 in the opening set and 6-4 in the second on court six.
  • Dale then clinched the match for the Blue Devils on court five when he recorded a 7-5, 6-2 win over Aditya Vashistha.
  • The match on court four went unfinished between Krug and Fu. The home side tallied a 7-5 win in the first frame before Krug rebounded for a 6-3 victory…
