CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (9-5, 0-2 ACC) dropped the Sunday afternoon match to No. 25 Wake Forest (15-5, 2-0 ACC) 6-1 at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility, despite a top-100 win for Matt Pitts.

The Demon Deacons started off the afternoon on the right foot, winning 6-1 on Court 2. Max Smith and Spencer Whitaker were down 4-1 before making an incredible comeback and winning five straight games to take the match 6-4 over the Demon Deacon’s No. 40 doubles team in the nation. Trey Stinchcomb and Matt Pitts battled on Court 3 for the Clemson doubles point but came up just short, dropping the match 6-4.

Wake Forest took the momentum from doubles play into singles, earning wins on Courts 5, 4 and 1 before clinching the match 4-0. Wins on Court 5 and 2 for Wake Forest would bring the score to 6-0 before M. Pitts registered a well-earned come from behind 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over No. 95 Karimov.

Up next, the Tigers will host Georgia Tech on Wednesday, March 15 at 5 p.m. before heading to Chestnut Hill to play Boston College on Friday, March 15. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
