Ducks Earn Second Ranked Win, Outlast Utes

Idaho

EUGENE, Ore. – With four singles matches going to three sets, No. 47 Oregon was able to outlast No. 50 Utah and pick up its second ranked win of the season Sunday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center, 4-2.

Leading 1-0 with a decisive doubles victory, the Ducks (10-4, 3-1) picked up three singles wins, including three-set wins by Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral to go with a straight-set win by Karin Young. Luescher and Martinez Moral both overcame first-set defeats to help UO equal its best four-match start to Pac-12 play in program history.

“We knew it would be a battle, especially since last year it was a battle down to the end in Karin’s match, and she won in three (sets),” said head coach Courtney Nagle. “So, we knew it was going to be a battle even though we got the doubles point. They weren’t going down without a fight.”
