Bulldogs Travel To Alabama - Mississippi State


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Following an eleven-match homestand, Mississippi State’s women’s tennis team hits the road for the first time this spring to face Alabama at 3 p.m. on Friday.

The Bulldogs head to the Tuscaloosa with a 10-3 record and Alabama being the third SEC opponent MSU has faced.

Mississippi State has claimed the last three meeting against Alabama, with the latest coming in Starkville on March 20, 2022 with a 4-2 victory.

Gia Cohen is coming into Friday’s match with a five-match winning streak having beat her two opponents last weekend against Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Cohen earned her third ranked win of career against Vanderbilt’s 96th-ranked Holly Staff.

Dharani Niroshan has been on a hot streak of late, having won here last four matches in dual play. Niroshan is 6-2 in dual play and 9-7 overall.

A new pairing in doubles for the Bulldogs is Cohen and Maria Rizzolo, who earned their first doubles win together against Kentucky last weekend.

Alabama heads into the weekend with a 7-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Tide dropped a 4-3 decision against then No. 8 Auburn last Sunday.  

No. 96 Loudmilla Bencheikh is Alabama’s only ranked player on the roster in singles. The Tide also includes a 58th-ranked doubles pairing in Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser.
