Bowers Clinches 4-0 Illini Win Over Indiana

Big Ten Tournament

URBANA, Ill. – Illinois men’s tennis defeated Indiana, 4-0, Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at Atkins Tennis Center to close out the regular season. 

The Illini finished with a 16-8 overall record and a 6-3 Big Ten record. 

Doubles began with Alex Petrov and Tyler Bowers defeating Facundo Yunis and Luc Boulier, 6-4. Illinois clinched the doubles point with No. 35-ranked Lucas Horve and Oliver Okonkwo beating Jagger Saylor and Ilya Tiraspolsky, 7-5. 

Petrov added to Illinois’ lead with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Yunis. Petrov goes to 12-5 with the win and 5-2 in Big Ten play. 

Mathis Debru put the Illini up 3-0 after taking down Deacon Thomas, 6-0, 7-6 (3), with Bowers clinching the match after beating Tiraspolsky 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. 

Up next 

The Illini have earned the No.-4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will compete on Friday against the No. 5-seed Nebraska at 11 a.m. CT in Evanston, Ill. at the Combe Tennis Center.
