Alabama Finishes the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic


GREENVILLE, S.C. – Alabama’s Anne Marie Hiser and Ansley Cheshire recorded singles wins on Sunday to close the Crimson Tide’s time at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic. UA finished the tournament with five doubles and nine singles wins.

Both Hiser and Cheshire won singles matches during the day’s events, defeating Cristina Mayorova (Clemson), 6-4, 6-3 and Chloe Henderson (NC State), 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, respectfully.

Over the weekend, senior No. 46 Loudmilla Bencheikh led the Crimson Tide after going two of three in both singles and doubles with teammate Hiser. Bencheikh picked up two victories over ranked opponents – No. 10 Millie Rajecki (NC State) and No. 44 Casie Wooten (Wake Forest).

Alabama saw career firsts from freshman Priya Nelson. Nelson collected her first collegiate singles win against Macy Hitchcock of Furman, 7-5, 6-1 on Friday before her and doubles partner Anna Parkhomenko won their first doubles match as a duo against Gina Dittmann/Chloe Henderson of NC State, 8-1.

  • Anne Marie Hiser defeated Cristina Mayorova of Clemson, 6-4, 6-3 to earn her 46th career win
  • Ansley Cheshire defeated Chloe Henderson (NC State) after dropping the opening set (4-6, 6-4, 10-5)
