Tennis Finishes First Outing of Season – Vanderbilt University Athletics – Official Athletics Website

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis finished its first outing of the season Sunday at the Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted by the defending NCAA national champion North Carolina.

In Sunday’s White bracket final, Vanderbilt sophomore Bridget Stammel finished in third, playing a tight second set with UNC’s top-seeded Carson Tanguilig, 6-1, 7-5. Tanguilig, a junior, is ranked No. 19 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.

Senior Anessa Lee upset third seed Eleni Louka of Clemson in the Navy consolation bracket. Lee was the second Commodore to defeat Louka this weekend after freshman Valeria Ray did in the quarterfinals.

Lee and sophomore Célia-Belle Mohr lost a tiebreak in the Ram bracket doubles final 8-7(3) to Gabriella Broadfoot and Abigail Rencheli of North Carolina State.

Over the three-day tournament, Vanderbilt fiinshed wins in five of the six brackets and had two finalists, two semifinalists and three quarterfinalists.

The Commodores return to Music City to host the annual June Stewart Invitational starting on Friday.
