EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Joshua Charlton was again honored for his on-court performance this season, as he has been named the ITA Northwest Region’s Most Improved Senior.
The award honors the senior who has shown the most improvement over the course of their career. Charlton is certainly deserving of the recognition, as he leaves the University of Oregon as the school’s all-time combined wins leader with 186 wins. The Aussie set a new school record as the first player in Oregon history to amass over 100 doubles wins, finishing with 103. His 86 singles wins place him fourth on the all-time list.
“Most improved senior looks at the whole career from freshman year to graduation,” said head coach Nils Schyllander. “Josh’s improvement over the years from starting in the lower half of the lineup, to working his way up to the number one singles and doubles spots, and breaking records along the way exemplifies what this award stands for. It’s been a great journey for Josh here at Oregon and he is definitely leaving a legacy.”
Charlton’s career has resulted in plenty of memorable moments. He and teammate Quinn Vandecasteele reached the NCAA Tournament in doubles last season, the first pair of Ducks to do so in 22 years. In the fall of 2022, they won the ITA Nationals consolation draw and closed the fall season with four consecutive wins. The pair ranked as high as eighth in the country after winning 10 matches in a row this season.
The first player in program history to make three consecutive All-Pac-12 Second Teams has also helped the Ducks continue their status as an ITA All-Academic team and contributed to a perfect score of 1,000 in the NCAA Academic Progress Report each of his years on campus.
