TULSA, Okla. — Senior Dzianis Zharyn picked up a quality win over a ranked opponent today in the back draw of the ITA All-American Championships qualifying rounds, holding off the nation’s 84th-ranked singles player in a third set tiebreak.
Zharyn, ranked 92nd himself, overcame Princeton’s Top Nidunjianzan, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (6) to get his first win of the fall. The consolation play does not progress beyond today’s round, but Zharyn will be in action on Wednesday in the main draw of doubles, where he and Cesar Bouchelaghem are one of four 5-8 seeded pairs. The two open up at 2:30 p.m. Pacific time.
