Women's Tennis Sweeps ACC Awards


Chapel Hill – Senior Anika Yarlagadda (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Freshman Reese Brantmeier (Whitewater, Wisc.) have been named ACC Co-Player of the Week and ACC Freshman of the Week. Yarlagadda is joined by Chloe Beck of Duke as Co-Player of the Week.

Brantmeier earns the ACC Freshman of the Week honor for the Second time in her career. She is currently 8-1 during the dual match season. This past weekend at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Brantmeier defeated No. 20 Janice Tjen of Pepperdine 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 and No. 5 Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M Won 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.  Brantmeier and doubles partner Elizabeth Scotty earned a crucial win over doubles team of Nirundorn/Grant 7-6 (8-6) to help the Tar Heels earn the ITA National Team Indoor National Championship.

The West Bloomfield, Mich. Native, Yarlagadda is 5-2 during the dual match portion of the season. This past weekend at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Yarlagadda one three of four matches, taking down Anna Campana of Pepperdine 6-2, 6-0, Bayley Sheinin of Michigan 6-3, 6-4 and Meg Kowalski of Georgia 6-1, 6-2.

No. 2 Carolina earned a 4-0 victory over No. 3 Georgia in the championship match of the 2023 ITA Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championships to claim the 4th straight ITA Indoor National Championship. This marks the seventh ITA National Championship for UNC. The Tar Heels have won five titles in the last six years and seven in the last 10 years. 

 

The Tar Heels return to the hard court entering ACC play on Friday, Feb. 24 traveling to Charlottesville, Va. to take on Virginia at 4 P.M. and following that match, Carolina will make the short trek to Blacksburg, Va. for the 11 am Sunday, Feb. 26th match vs. Virginia Tech. The Heels return to the confines of the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on March 3rd vs Louisville.
