UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team (5-16, 4-7 B1G) dropped its last regular season Big Ten match to No. 35 Northwestern (18-6, 9-2 B1G).
The Blue and White will next play in the Big Ten Tournament and find out its opponent in the upcoming week.
DOUBLES
Olivia Dorner and Yvonne Zuffova fell in their match to Britany Lau and Maria Shusharina, 6-2, at No. 3.
Jordina Cegarra and Alina Lebedeva, at No. 2, tied the fight for doubles matches at one all with their win against Sydney Pratt and Neena Feldman, 6-2.
At the top doubles spot, Sofiya Chekhlystova and Karly Friedland dropped a tough fought match that went all the way into a tiebreak to No. 55 Christina Hand and Justine Leong. The score to the match was 7-6 (7-3).
SINGLES
The Wildcats grabbed three singles matches to grab the win.
Yvonne Zuffova’s match was retired due to injury in the second set.
At No. 4, Jordina Cegarra fell to Sydney Pratt, 6-1, 7-5 to allow Northwestern to be up 3-0.
Olivia Dorner won her match, 7-5, over Christina Hand to make the score 3-1.
To close in on the score, Sofiya Chekhlystova defeated Maria Shusharina, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Ultimately, Alina Lebedeva lost her match to Britany Lau, 7-5, 6-2.
Karly Friedland’s match was left unfinished in the second set.
