The Utah women’s tennis squad nears the end of the fall season with a road trip to College Station to compete at the Aggie Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. Following a stellar performance at the ITA Regional tournament hosted at the George S. Eccles Tenis Center the Ute women are ready to keep the season in motion. Marcela Lopez will not join the team at this tournament as she prepares to compete at ITA Fall Nationals.

LAST TIME OUT

Lopez claimed second place singles at the ITA Regional Championship as she faced Noesja Brink from Wyoming in a narrow-margin finals match. The 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 defeat proved an exciting contest and secured Lopez a spot in the ITA Nationals Tournament.

Teammate Emma Kamper claimed her first collegiate title as she won the B-Draw in the tournament after coming out victorious in the 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 battle against Nevada’s Wiem Boubaker. Kaila Barksdale made an impressive run to the semifinals in the main draw but faced defeat before reaching the final round of competition.

HEAD COACH RIC MORTERA

After a successful tournament week, ITA Mountain Region host Ric Mortera leads his team to the Aggie Invitational and sends a player to ITA Nationals. The 2022 ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year counts on a successful 22-23 season to push momentum into the current fall and upcoming 23-24 season.
