Utah Sweeps Incarnate Word and Oral Roberts in Doubleheader


TULSA, OKLA. – The Utah men closed out another successful weekend of play with a double-header against the Incarnate Word Cardinals and the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. The squad started the day with a 4-0 win against the Cardinals and closed out with another 4-0 against the Golden Eagles.
 
Match #1 – Incarnate Word
The day started off with doubles where the Utes quickly secured their point. Berk Bugarikj and Patrik Trhac secured a win on court one 6-4 against the Cardinal tandem. Soon after, teammates Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman downed Jose Garmendia and Joao Sasso 6-4 to secure the doubles point. The match on court three remained unfinished.

As the squad moved to singles, they continued with strong performances. On court three Francisco Bastias downed Joao Sasso 6-2, 6-0 to award the Utes with their second match point. Soon after, Trhac also defeated his opponent in a 6-4, 6-2 match. The final point for the Utes came on court one as Capalbo defeated Cardinal Pietro Perego 6-2, 6-2.

On court two, Busleiman won the first set 6-2 and had score 2-3 but his match was unfinished. Matches on court four and five were also unfinished.

 

MATCH #2 – Oral Roberts

Following their first victory of the day, the Utes continued with the winning streak. The doubles point was quickly secured once more with a 6-0 win from Capalbo and Busleiman followed by a 6-4 win from Bastias and Bruno Caula. The match on court one was unfinished.

For singles, Utah’s Bugarikj took the first win against Oral Roberts’ Evans 6-3, 6-0 on court five. Bastias also scored a win against Monferrer, finishing 6-4, 6-0. The match was clinched on court six where Mateo Julio took the victory 6-2, 6-3. The rest of the matches were unfinished.

 

UP NEXT

The Utah men return home to face in-state rival BYU next weekend. The match will take place at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 2 p.m. MT.                                                                                           …
