Utah set to host Denver on Saturday


FIRST SERVE
The Utah men return to the home base this weekend after a successful road trip to California. After taking a 7-0 sweep against the SDSU Aztecs and a 4-0 victory against the LMU Lions, the squad returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. This time around the Utes will face the Denver Pioneers in a match set to begin at 12 p.m. MT.

IN THE BOOKS
Head Coach Roeland Brateanu leads the Utah men’s program in a six-match winning streak and an 8-2 overall record. The 2022 Wilson/ITA Head Coach of the Year continues to lead his team to success after setting a new standard with the historic 2022 season.
 
IN THE RANKS
The Utah men continue to show stellar performances during matches, leading three individuals to ranked positions as the season progresses. Berk Bugarikj and Patrik Trhac, ITA Mountain Region title holders for doubles, are currently ranked No.13 in the nation according to most recent ITA Collegiate Rankings. Teammate Geronimo Espin Busleiman, ITA Mountain Region title holder for singles, is currently ranked the No. 58 player in the nation.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
The Denver Pioneers currently hold a 5-4 record for the 2023 season. The team’s most recent victories have been a 6-1 win against Utah State and 6-1 against the Idaho Vandals. The Utes faced the Pioneers last season, a match resulting in a 4-3 win for Utah.

The teams also faced each other at the ITA Mountain Region Championships, where Utah’s Berk Bugarikj/Patrik Trhac defeated Denver’s Herrero Cuesta/Sancho Arbizu 8-2 in the quarterfinal round.
