Berkeley, Calif. – The Utah men’s tennis squad wrapped up the first match of their four-match road-streak this afternoon with a competition against the California Golden Bears. The Utes dropped the doubles point and were unable to secure the singles courts for a 4-0 loss against the Bears.
During doubles play the Utah men faced tough competition as the first court fell to the Bears. Dylan Applegate and Gianluca Citadini were battling it out on court three, trailing by one game 4-5 when Cal took control on court two. This left the match on court three unfinished as the Bears secured the first point and moved the match to individual competition.
Utah looked to singles play to secure a victory, but unfortunately fell short. After dropping the fourth court, the Utes were in a two-point deficit. The third point came after the Utes fell once more on court two.
Geronimo Espin Busleiman led 1-0 in the third set after falling 6-2 in the first set and securing the second set 6-1. On court five Citadini was battling 2-2 in the second set after dropping the first set 4-6. On court six Michael Blando dropped the first set and was tied 4-4 in the second set.
All three matches were unfinished as Cal clinched on court three.
UP NEXT
The Utes are slated to face Stanford on Sunday, Apr. 7 at 2:30 p.m. MT. The squad will then continue the road trip as it heads to face Arizona State and Arizona in the final road matches of the regular season.
