ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman Özlem Uslu, the country’s 54th-ranked singles player, punched her ticket to the second round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Singles Championships with a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 39 Kylie Collins.
Uslu got ahead early in the first set with an early break point to go up 2-0 before eventually stretching her lead to 4-1. She clinched the first set with another break, holding a 6-2 advantage.
In the second set, Uslu followed a similar formula with another early break to take a 4-1 advantage. The Gebze, Turkey native saw out the set – clinching a 6-2, 6-4 win.
