Women’s Tennis | March 25, 2023

LOS ANGELES – The USC women’s tennis teams’ attempt at a comeback victory came up just short as the Women of Troy would fall 4-3 to Pac-12 rival No. 18 Stanford on Saturday, March 25 at Marks Tennis Stadium.

With the loss, USC falls to 9-6 (1-2) while Stanford improves to 10-2 (3-0).

Stanford jumped out to a 1-0 lead early following two wins in doubles. The Trojan duo of Snow Han and Emma Charney teamed up to defeat Stanford’s Choy/Yepifanova 6-4 on court two. Next, the Cardinal duo of No. 62 Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokina beat No. 22 Maddy Sieg and Eryn Cayetano 6-4 on center court. With all eyes on court three, Stanford came out on top as Ma/Xu would beat Nathalie Rodilosso and Naomi Cheong 6-4 to haul in the doubles point.

The Women of Troy struggled to find momentum moving into singles play, with Stanford taking two straight set wins on courts six and two. Junior Naomi Cheong got the Trojans on the board with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Stanford’s Xu on court five. From there, USC kept its hopes at a comeback victory alive, winning on courts one and four to even the score 3-3. The match was decided on court three as No. 33 Alexandra Yepifanova battled back from a first set loss to defeat No. 35 Eryn Cayetano 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-3.

Tomorrow, the Trojans will host Cal for another noon Pac-12 dual at Marks Stadium. Fans in attendance will receive free Sprinkles Cupcakes.
