CARY, N.C. – Abbey Forbes and Anika Yarlagadda successfully advanced through the qualifying singles draw on Tuesday at the ITA Women’s All-American Championship from Cary Tennis Park.
North Carolina has five of its standout tennis players – the most in the field – included in the Main Draw Singles of the first major collegiate tournament of the 2022 fall season.
Yarlagadda continued her outstanding play this fall by knocking off a pair of ranked opponents – Virginia’s 35th ranked Julia Adams and No. 69 Dominika Turkovic of Arizona State – among her three victories thus far this week.
No. 15 Forbes, the top seed in the Qualifying Singles field, won all three matches in straight sets, including a 6-2, 6-1, victory over No. 82 Julia Andreach of Notre Dame that placed her in the main draw.
No. 3 seed and 31st ranked Reilly Tran made easy work of Harvard’s Maxi Duncan, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round, and took out UCF’s No. 90 Marie Mattel, 6-3, 6-3, before falling to No. 65 Snow Han of USC in the Round of 16.
Forbes and Yarlagadda now join teammates Fiona Crawley, Elizabeth Scotty and Carson Tanguilig in the main draw that begins on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
The Cracked Racquets CrossCourt Cast will provide coverage of the main draw beginning Wednesday and running through the championship matches on Sunday.
Offering an elevated experience from the traditional live-stream broadcast, this CrossCourt Cast will offer viewers a unique experience to keep up with all of the best matches on the court, while hearing expert commentary from Mark Bey and Alex Gruskin.
