Turkovic Named ITA Southwest Region's Most Improved Senior


TEMPE, Ariz.- Sun Devil Women’s Tennis’ Domenika Turkovic was named the ITA Southwest region Most Improved Senior on Tuesday morning. This is the second accolade in two weeks for Turkovic after being named to the CSC Academic All-America second team last week. In her final season as a Sun Devil, Turkovic excelled in all areas of the court as she was ranked as high as No. 7 in doubles with her partner Patricija Spaka and up to No. 74 in singles rankings.

In the 2022-23 seson, she had a 12-6 record in singles and compiled an 8-10 record in doubles.The duo of Turkovic/Spaka advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championships and were the first duo since 2018 to advance past the opening round. This year’s postseason appearance for Turkovic and her partner Spaka was the second straight appearance by the duo at the NCAA Doubles Championships. In early April, the pair was instrumental in helping the Sun Devils take down then-No.29 USC as they defeated the country’s No. 21 ranked pair of Eryn Cayetano/Maddy Sieg. Spaka and Turkovic entered the preseason ranked No. 20 and won the Women’s Doubles Consolation Draw at the ITA National Fall Championships. In singles play, Turkovic picked up a ranked win in conference against No. 122 Ava Catanzarite of UCLA in a 6-2, 6-0 victory on April 8 and she was one of four Sun Devils to reach double digits in singles wins.
