Top-Ranked Women's Tennis Weekend Preview


Who: No. 1 North Carolina (24-0, 10-0 ACC) vs. No. 7 NC State and No. 24 Wake Forest

Where: Chapel Hill, N.C.

When: Thursday, April 6, 2023 – 5 p.m. / Saturday, April 8, 2023 – 11 a.m.

 

The Lead: After two wins over ranked opponents last weekend, the No. 1 ranked Tar Heels will host two more Top-25 opponents this week when No. 7 NC State and No. 24 Wake Forest travel to Chapel Hill. UNC will face the Wolfpack on Thursday at 5 p.m. while Saturday’s match against the Demon Deacons is set for 11:00 a.m. 


Storylines:

  • With two wins last weekend, UNC recorded its 24th victory in a row. 24 consecutive victories is tied for the third-longest winning streak in program history.

  • North Carolina enters the weekend ranked No. 1 for the eighth consecutive week.

  • UNC is 100-20 all-time against NC State and Wake Forest.

  • Last season, the Tar Heels defeated the Wolfpack 4-3 in Raleigh while also defeating Wake Forest 5-2 in Winston-Salem.


From the Notes: Last week, Fiona Crawley won her 111th singles match as a Tar Heel. She is now only four singles victories shy of entering the top-10 for all-time singles victories at UNC.

Switching Sides:

  •  Last weekend, NC State defeated ECU and Boston College 7-0.

  •  The Demon Deacons went 2-0 last weekend after defeating Syracuse and Elon.

  •  Entering the weekend, the Wolfpack are 17-2 overall and 7-1 in road matches.

  •  Wake Forest’s duo of Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth have won their last seven completed matches in doubles and moved into fifth all-time in doubles wins in Wake Forest history.
