CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Clemson Tigers began their ITA Regional Championships at UNC-Chapel Hill run on Thursday, October 19th, and are set for more matchups today.
Three Tigers competed in the singles qualifying round of 64. Sophia Hatton defeated Mathilde Delaney from Presbyterian College, 6-2, 6-1, to advance to the round of 32. Later in the day, Hatton lost to Kim Auerswald of East Carolina University in the round of 32 by a score of 3-6, 4-6. Hatton will now compete in the A2 bracket against Linge Steenkamp of UNC Asheville today, October 20th, at 11 a.m.
Leigh Van Zyl fell to Sara Suchankov from UNC Charlotte on Thursday 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 4-6. Van Zyl competed in the consolation bracket against Simone Bergeron from Elon University 6-3, 7-5. Van Zyl moves on to the round of 16 due to a bye in the round of 16. Van Zyl will take on Brenda Yoris at a later time and day.
Alexandra Anttila lost to Jade Houston from North Carolina Central University by scoring 6-3,1-6, 3-6. Anttila was scheduled to play Valeria Lloclla of Gardner Webb but withdrew from the tournament due to injury.
In the A1 singles bracket, Alina Tsyurpalevych plays today, October 20th, at 9 a.m. against Grace Thomas of Furman University in the round of 32. Eleni Louka will also play today at 9 a.m. against Nevena Caron of Wake Forest in the round of 32.
In the A2 singles bracket, Cristina Mayorova takes the court for the first time in singles to play today, October 20th, at 10 a.m. against Anna Babyan of Coastal Carolina in the round of 23. Jenna Thompson will also compete for the first time in singles today at 10:30 a.m. against Eda Arli of UNC Wilmington in the round of 32.
In the doubles A1 bracket on Thursday, Hatton and Tsyumpalevyech defeated Ap Shumate and Katelyn Hubbard of UNC Wilmington by 8-2. The doubles pair plays in the round of 16 against Gina Dittmann and Maddy Zampardo of North Carolina State University today at 1:30 p.m. Mayorova, and Van Zyl beat Emma Wilkins and Lucie Petruzelova of UNC Charlotte on Thursday to advance to the round of 16 by a score of 8-2. The pair will play today at 12:30 p.m. against Macy Hitchcock and Eleanor Schulson of Furman University.
In the doubles A2 bracket, Louka and Thompson took on Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford of Davidson College on Thursday, winning by a score of 8-7, 11-9. The pair advanced to the round of 16, playing Lucia Gomez and Gabriella Glickstien of UNC Wilmington today, October 20th, at 1:30 p.m.
