ATHENS, Ga. — University of Missouri tennis closed out the season on Wednesday, April 17, after a 4-0 loss to Alabama in the opening round of the SEC Tournament at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
The 14-seed Tigers wrap up their season record at 5-22 with an 0-14 record against SEC opponents. Mizzou’s 11-seed opponent, Alabama (15-9), will advance to Thursday’s second round to face off against No. 6 South Carolina.
Kicking off the match with doubles play, the Tigers came out of the gate with energy, taking a 6-4 win on court 3 with the duo of graduate student Emelie Schwarte and sophomore Andrea Artimedi. Mizzou could not hold onto the doubles point on courts one and two, dropping 6-3 and 6-4, respectively, as Alabama opened the match ahead.
The Tide won the match in straight sets at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 spots to advance in the SEC Tournmanet

“It was a tough match today. Alabama played well throughout the entirety of the match, but we had chances in doubles. Good win in doubles by Emelie and Andrea at No. 3. In singles, we weren’t consistent enough, and Alabama capitalized. It’s always tough, as it is the last match of the season and the last collegiate match for many of our players on the team. I’m excited to see what the future holds for our graduating class and welcome a new group of Tigers to Columbia.”
