Tech Returns with Matches Against Kennesaw State & UNCW – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – After a week off, the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (7-5, 0-0 ACC) returns this week with two matchups. On Friday, Tech will travel to Kennesaw State (5-0, 0-0 ASUN) on Thursday, Feb. 23 for a match at 10 a.m. The Jackets return on Sunday, Feb. 26 to host UNC Wilmington (3-1, 0-0 CAA) at 12 p.m.

In the most recent ITA Division I Men’s Tennis Rankings, three Jackets have earned spots on the singles and doubles lists. The duo of Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel moved up to No. 21 on the Top 60 doubles poll. On the singles list, Martin jumped to No. 34, McDaniel joined the list at No. 47 and Keshav Chopra ranks 85th in the nation.

Last time out, Tech faced off against two nationally ranked programs and three teams in total. Despite some stunning upsets in singles and doubles play, the Jackets fell to No. 6 South Carolina, 4-3 and No. 8 Georgia, 5-2. Tech rallied back and earned a dominating 7-0 victory over the Citadel.

Tech swept last week’s ACC Weekly awards with McDaniel being named the ACC Player of the Week and ACC Doubles Team of the Week with Martin. As an unranked player, McDaniel defeated two of the NCAA’s Top 20 players. He took down South Carolina’s No. 7 Connor Thomson and Georgia’s No. 17 Philip Henning.

As a pair, McDaniel and Martin went 2-0 during their last weekend of competition. The two Jackets were victorious against South Carolina’s No. 1 Toby Samuel and Connor Thomson and Georgia’s No. 19 Trent Bryde and Ethan Quinn.

After these two upcoming matches, Tech will commence conference regular season competition.
