GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mississippi State women’s tennis picked up a singles win on the final day of the Debbie Southern Fall Classic on Sunday.
Maria Rizzolo defeated Sophia Hatton of Clemson 8-6 in an eight-game pro set in the final round of the tournament. The win marks her first singles victory at the event. Rizzolo won in doubles on Saturday with partner Jayna Clemens. The pair took down Mia Ahmad and Aubery Nisbet of Wake Forest 8-4.
After going undefeated in singles play on the first two days, Clemens fell in the Flight 6 against Aysegul Mert of Georgia 6-2, 6-3.
Freshman Ava Rath also went undefeated during the first two days of the tournament but fell to Megan Basil of Ohio State 7-6(4), 6-2 in Flight 10 on the final day.
The Bulldogs posted a 6-7 record in singles matches during the three-day tournament and had a 4-4 mark in doubles action.
The Bulldogs hit the courts again for individual play on Sept. 24 for the ITF W15 Hilton Head in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
