Spartans Travel to Purdue and Indiana for Final Regular-Season Road Matches


EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men’s tennis heads to Indiana this weekend for its final regular-season road matches. The Spartans take on Purdue in West Lafayette on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m. before traveling to Bloomington for a noon match against Indiana on Sunday, April 16.

The 69th-ranked Spartans enter the weekend at 8-11 (1-4 B1G) after going 1-1 last week, falling to then-No. 3 Ohio State, 7-0, on April 7 before picking up a 4-1 win over Penn State on April 9. MSU’s win over Penn State marked its first conference win of the season. 

In addition to its team ranking, the Spartans were once again represented in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings in both doubles and singles. Freshman Ozan Baris ranks 43rd in the ITA singles rankings, while Baris and doubles partner Max Sheldon rank 10th in doubles. 

Purdue (2-15, 0-5) and Indiana (12-10, 1-4) dropped two matches last weekend, both falling  to No. 49 Wisconsin and No. 47 Nebraska on the road. The Hoosiers will host No. 6 Michigan on Friday before Sunday’s match against the Spartans. 

MSU’s final regular season matches will take place at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Center next week, as the Spartans host Illinois on Friday, April 21 at 4 p.m. and Northwestern on Sunday, April 23 for Senior Day at noon.
