EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women’s tennis is back in action this weekend as it hits the road for a weekend slate in Hanover, New Hampshire. The Spartans will face Boston College for the first-time ever on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. before taking on host Dartmouth on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m.
HEAD COACH KIM BRUNO
“We are excited to be on the road again and travel to the beautiful state of New Hampshire to compete against top notch opponents,” MSU head coach Kim Bruno said. “Each match we play is an opportunity for us to improve and grow. I like how we have been preparing, now it’s time to play.”
Going coast-to-coast
The Spartans will be going from the sunny southwest coast to the cold northeast in New Hampshire. In its last outing, MSU opened the season in Arizona against Missouri on Jan. 19 where it took down the Tigers 4-1 with key wins from the veteran duos of Ayshe Can and Liisa Vehvilainen in a 6-0 shutout, and Nicole Conard and Issey Purser 6-1 to take the doubles point. MSU dropped two matches the next day to Arizona 4-0, and BYU 4-0.
NEWBIE PICKED UP FIRST WIN
Sophomore transfer Matilde Morais earned her first career win as a Spartan in the victory over Missouri’s Inah Canete on court two (6-1,2-6,6-4). The Cascais, Portugal, gritty victory was the match point that iced the Tigers and gave MSU its first victory of the season.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
Boston College enters the week with a 2-1 overall record with its most recent win that came against the University of Massachusetts, 5-2, on Jan. 27. The Eagles are under the leadership of 23-year head coach Nigel Bentley. In the 2022-23 season, Boston College saw the most wins in a season (11) since the 2018-19 season where it boasted 16 total victories.
