WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men’s tennis team was defeated 4-0 by No. 24 Northwestern on Sunday.
Following a ranked loss to No. 22 Illinois on Friday, the Boilermakers came out with fire lit under their bellies. Purdue was able to flip doubles play on its head after trailing early. Two Boiler teams were able to cut early deficits and force extra sets.
Duo Michal Wozniak/Milledge Cossu went down 4-1 early, but managed battle their way back to tie the match at 5-5 forcing the extra games. The pair dropped the next game and trailed 6-5 but were unable to finish the match when the Wildcats clinched the point at No. 1 when Daniel Labrador/Tomasz Dudek were defeated 7-5.
Purdue’s top positions were unable to complete their matches as the Wildcats quickly clinched the match with three wins in straight sets. Tomasz Dudek was the only Boilermaker leading his match with a 6-4 win in the first set at No. 5.
Purdue is still winless in conference play as they drop to 0-3, and have yet to score a point in Big Ten play.
